Regional Conference on Water Governance

12 December 2017 | Ms. Maya Chamli, Project Manager at the HCP, has participated in the Conference on Water Governance in MENA and wider Mediterranean region which was held in Barcelona on December 12-14, 2017. Organized under the auspices of the Union for the Mediterranean (UfM), the conference – which marked the closing of two UfM regional projects water – focused on sustainable financing and integrity for water security. Speaking in the session on regulation and PPPs in the water sector, Ms. Chamli presented the good governance principles which are captured in the recently enacted PPP law in Lebanon. More specifically, she highlighted the principles of “participation”, reflected in the participatory tendering process which engages all stakeholders; the principle of “transparency”, translated in the clear and open decision making process; the principle of “efficiency” which characterizes the bidding process based on standardized procedures and contracts, ensuring as such consistency and reducing bid time and cost for the bidders.
